In the production of artistic stained glass, the use of different types of relief glass allows you to create unique effects due to the degree of transparency, relief, texture and color of the glass. There is a varied assortment of patterned glasses that are used to create interior and exterior stained glass windows, doors and partitions, and screens.
Patterned glass (Figureglass, Patternedglass) - a type of glass that has a relief drawing on one or both sides. This relief is obtained using special rollers, onto which a corresponding three-dimensional pattern is first applied. To obtain a high-quality relief image, the glass is calcined before processing with rollers.
The pattern on patterned glass can have different depths of relief lines: 0.5-1.5 mm, and the thickness of the sheet is 4-8 mm. Patterned glass differs from transparent glass, in addition to the textured surface, in light transmittance. In addition, this coefficient depends on the type of pattern and coloring of the glass.
By type of coloring, patterned glass can be:
colorless;
colored (painted or tinted).
Tinted or painted patterned glass is obtained from glass colored in the mass or by applying a special coating to one of the surfaces. The transmittance of colorless one-sided patterned glass will be 0.75, and if there are patterns on both sides - 0.7. Colored glass transmits even less light and amounts to 30-65%.
Another technical parameter of patterned glass is its transparency. In accordance with this parameter, all patterned glass can be divided into three main groups:
transparent;
matted.
In stained glass products, transparent patterned glass has an elegant and sophisticated appearance. Frosted patterned glass has the lowest coefficient of transparency, transmits diffused light, while protecting the room from prying eyes.
The low transparency of frosted patterned glasses makes them an optimal solution for arranging bathrooms. Exquisite and sophisticated transparent patterned glass is widely used by designers and architects to decorate facades.
Transparent and colored details from different types of patterned glass can often be seen in stained glass windows made using the Tiffany technique.
